How to Hire the Right Kitchen Remodelers

Fitzpatrick Painting & Construction • Sep 26, 2019

kitchen remodelersRemodeling your kitchen is a huge, important and a somewhat daunting task. Investing in a high-quality remodel not only makes your kitchen more beautiful and practical, but can increase the overall value of your home –  in fact, potential home buyers rank the kitchen as the most important room in the entire house. With this in mind, finding the right contractor to take on the job is key to the success of the project.

Choosing Licensed and Insured Kitchen Remodelers vs Amateurs

Hiring a professional is always more expensive, but there are several key reasons to choose a professional over an amateur for your kitchen remodel.

  1. Risk reduction : A professional contractor will be licensed, certified and insured. A professional will obtain all the required permits, protecting you from legal issues. An amateur remondeler on the other hand, leaves you liable for any improper work, mistakes or injuries.
  2. More accurate and transparent estimates : A professional remodeler will provide a clear and detailed quote which breaks down the cost of materials, labor, etc. With an amateur remodeler, costs often appear artificially lower at the start of the project, and they may cut important corners to keep within the budget.
  3. Livability during the remodel : A professional remodeler will better know how to deal with dust and dirt, and will use more effective tools and processes to minimize these annoyances, allowing you to live safely in your home while the project is underway. This can save you money and hassle in the long run.
  4. Outcome : Most obviously, a professional will deliver more high-quality, polished results.

Read Reviews Carefully & Ask to See Past Work

When seeking out a contractor to help with your kitchen remodel, it’s crucial to ask as many questions as possible beforehand so that you find someone you trust. Most importantly, ask to see their license, certifications and proof of insurance to make sure they are properly qualified. Always read reviews past customers have left on their Google or Facebook pages, or search reviews through websites like HomeAdvisor.com or Angie’s List. To get a better sense of the quality of their work, ask to see examples of past work. Talk through what their work day looks like, how many people they have on their team and how they will protect your home. Be sure to obtain more than one quote, and ask contractors to clearly break down all the costs (and what will happen if unanticipated problems or costs arise during the course of the remodel). Finally, ask if they have a warranty or any options to guarantee their work!
