Renovating Your Ceiling? These 4 Painted Ceilings Are Right On Trend

December 20, 2018

It shouldn’t be a huge secret that the home improvement industry in the U.S. is booming. But, did you know it’s worth a whopping $367 billion ?

Americans are definitely DIY-crazy. And why shouldn’t we be?

After all, who doesn’t love a little sprucing up to make a home feel brand-new again?

So, what projects are homeowners tackling the most? Bathroom, flooring, and painting are all at the top of the list

In fact, one of the biggest trends right now is painted ceilings.

You probably haven’t given much thought to painting your ceilings before, but it sounds intriguing, doesn’t it? Plus, you can finally get rid of all that popcorn mess!

Take a look below at the four biggest trends to find out just how intriguing painted ceilings can be!

1. Paging Dr. Gray

If you look up at your ceiling right now, what color is it? Chances are, it’s white.

Boring!

Now, there are plenty of scenarios where white works well. For instance, a beadboard look in a kitchen or bathroom reno  looks superb. But, don’t discount gray.

Gray actually can give your room a wow factor in a few different ways.

If you pair a beautiful slate gray with a lighter shade on the walls, you’ll give your dining room or master bedroom a refined and stately update.

Gray can provide another antidote. It can make smaller rooms look larger.

Using the same combo of a darker painted ceiling and a lighter gray wall will make an eight-foot ceiling seem much higher.

2. Make a Statement

If choosing gray as your ceiling paint color isn’t a bold enough statement for you, what about a sunny yellow or deep purple?

Before you scoff at these ceiling paint ideas, there’s some psychology behind it.

The kitchen is one of the happiest rooms in your home. Why not make it even more cheerful and bright with a soft, non-mustard yellow ceiling? If you plan on refinishing your cabinets  white, the stark contrast to the yellow will really pop.

Purple represents wisdom, mystery, and wealth — which makes it perfect for an office, study, or den. It’s also sure to get your guests talking, too.

3. Faux Stone

This one may be more for a painting contractor than a weekend DIYer. Faux stone is becoming a popular choice for painted ceilings for its luxurious look.

Gloss grays and browns painted to look like granite or natural stone is gorgeous in a formal dining room. It can also raise the wow factor in your outside room or patio  entertaining space.

4. Theme It Up

Themes aren’t only for children’s rooms anymore. If you already have a nautical or Mediterranean theme throughout your house, kick it up a notch by painting your ceilings in shades of blue.

This works for any theme you’ve chosen. Use teal for Scandinavian, gold for a Harry Potter-inspired study, or moody purple for a Boho design.

Are You Ready to Get Started on Your Painted Ceilings?

Are you feeling inspired by these painted ceiling ideas? Maybe you want something a little more subtle — and that’s great too! Gloss white and robin egg blue aren’t the boldest colors, but they can say a lot.

Are you a little intimidated at the thought of painting your ceilings?

Keep in mind, DIY doesn’t always mean that you’re picking up a sledgehammer and knocking down walls. Sometimes, it means picking up a phone and reaching out to contractors to make sure the job’s done right.

That’s where we come in. At Fitzpatrick Painting, we handle everything from remodels to exterior paint.

Creating a welcoming, clean, and safe environment is central to maintaining healthcare and retirement homes in the Willamette Valley. These spaces are more than buildings; they’re where residents and patients find care and comfort. So, every detail in the physical environment, from the lighting to the layout, should reflect your commitment to their well-being. One key yet often overlooked detail? Interior painting. When done thoughtfully, it goes far beyond aesthetics—it shapes the atmosphere, reinforces safety, and contributes to a sense of care that’s felt by everyone who walks through the door. Understanding the Needs of Healthcare and Retirement Homes It goes without saying: healthcare and retirement facilities have unique painting needs that go beyond aesthetics. High-traffic areas experience regular wear and tear, and frequent cleaning can cause paint to degrade faster than in typical environments. Additionally, maintaining a sanitary and safe environment is paramount. This is why painting should not only be about beautification but also about durability and hygiene. Seasonal painting schedules allow healthcare and retirement homes to address their most critical areas—like hallways, communal spaces, and entryways—at the right time, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum effectiveness. Seasonal Painting Considerations It’s all about having a predictable maintenance plan, simplifying your to-do list and keeping your facility looking its best throughout the year. 1. Spring/Summer: Refreshing the Exterior and Common Areas Spring and summer are ideal seasons for tackling exterior painting projects. The mild weather conditions mean paint will dry faster, and there’s less risk of moisture interfering with the application. Also consider brightening up communal spaces, such as dining areas and lounges. This can lift spirits and provide a fresh, inviting atmosphere. Seasonal colors like pastels or light neutrals can help create a calm and pleasant environment for residents. Summer into early fall is an ideal time for exterior painting too. The lower chances of rain and consistent temps allow for larger projects to be completed faster and with less interference from the weather. 2. Fall/Winter: Focus on Interior Updates The cooler months are ideal for tackling interior projects. During fall and winter, healthcare and retirement homes often operate at a more predictable pace, making it a good time to schedule interior painting updates without significantly disrupting daily routines. Winter is a great time to refresh patient rooms, hallways, and bathrooms with more durable finishes that can withstand regular cleaning.
