Paint it Forward 2024: A Recap of This Year’s Project

September 25, 2024

At Fitzpatrick Painting & Construction, we believe in giving back to our community in meaningful ways. That’s why our Paint It Forward charity painting event is so important to us, and one of the highlights of our entire year.

And this year, we were especially excited to support an organization that has been doing incredible work for our youth for nearly three decades.

What Is Paint It Forward?

Paint It Forward is a program that offers FREE painting services to individuals, families, or organizations who need a helping hand. We dedicate a full day of painting expertise to care for their property, leaving a lasting impact.

Each year we accept nominations, and after careful consideration, we choose a recipient based on their unique story and contributions. For us, it’s more than just painting a building—it's about helping those who help others, and fostering the growth of local initiatives that matter.

Who Was This Year’s Winner?

We were thrilled to announce that SouthSide Youth Outreach was the 2024 recipient of our Paint It Forward initiative! This outstanding organization, which has been serving our community since 1997, focuses on building strong relationships with young people and helping them grow into thriving members of society.

Here's an inside look at when we surprised them with the good news!

SouthSide Youth Outreach believes that by fostering personal connections and providing enrichment opportunities, they can positively influence the lives of young people who are facing challenges. Their mission is simple, yet impactful: “...to build strong, young lives so that our community will thrive.”

Over the years, they have worked tirelessly to create a safe space for young people to learn, grow, and succeed.

Like many nonprofits, SouthSide Youth Outreach operates on a tight budget. This often means that basic maintenance like painting gets delayed or set aside altogether. That’s where our team comes in. As part of the Paint It Forward project, we came in with a dedicated team and a full day of painting services to refresh their facility, allowing the organization to continue focusing on what truly matters—helping local youth.

Why We Do It

At Fitzpatrick Painting, we believe in the power of community. We recognize that our success is intertwined with the success of the people and organizations around us. That’s why giving back is a cornerstone of who we are as a company.

Paint It Forward allows us to use our skills and resources to support those who often give so much to others but may not have the time or funds to focus on their own needs. We believe that by refreshing and beautifying a space, we can offer a boost to morale, energy, and pride for the people working within it. This is especially important for organizations like SouthSide Youth Outreach, where the environment plays a critical role in helping young people feel safe, inspired, and ready to succeed.

Each year, we’re reminded of how impactful fresh paint can be—not just in terms of appearance, but in terms of creating a renewed sense of possibility. And that’s why we do it. We’re proud to be part of a community that looks out for each other, and through Paint It Forward, we’re honored to contribute in a meaningful way.

Some Takeaways from This Year’s Project

The pics below offers a closer look at the big day. Who knew hard work could be so fun, right? You can also view our LIVE Facebook video here.

We also couldn't have made a project this big happen without the help of our dear friends at Sherwin-Williams. They provided all the materials. And we mean all. From tape to paint, they had us covered.

Special thanks as well to No Dinx for our shirts, Pat E Mac’s BBQ for the amazing BBQ, and EquipmentShare for supplying the lifts.

Creating a welcoming, clean, and safe environment is central to maintaining healthcare and retirement homes in the Willamette Valley. These spaces are more than buildings; they’re where residents and patients find care and comfort. So, every detail in the physical environment, from the lighting to the layout, should reflect your commitment to their well-being. One key yet often overlooked detail? Interior painting. When done thoughtfully, it goes far beyond aesthetics—it shapes the atmosphere, reinforces safety, and contributes to a sense of care that’s felt by everyone who walks through the door. Understanding the Needs of Healthcare and Retirement Homes It goes without saying: healthcare and retirement facilities have unique painting needs that go beyond aesthetics. High-traffic areas experience regular wear and tear, and frequent cleaning can cause paint to degrade faster than in typical environments. Additionally, maintaining a sanitary and safe environment is paramount. This is why painting should not only be about beautification but also about durability and hygiene. Seasonal painting schedules allow healthcare and retirement homes to address their most critical areas—like hallways, communal spaces, and entryways—at the right time, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum effectiveness. Seasonal Painting Considerations It’s all about having a predictable maintenance plan, simplifying your to-do list and keeping your facility looking its best throughout the year. 1. Spring/Summer: Refreshing the Exterior and Common Areas Spring and summer are ideal seasons for tackling exterior painting projects. The mild weather conditions mean paint will dry faster, and there’s less risk of moisture interfering with the application. Also consider brightening up communal spaces, such as dining areas and lounges. This can lift spirits and provide a fresh, inviting atmosphere. Seasonal colors like pastels or light neutrals can help create a calm and pleasant environment for residents. Summer into early fall is an ideal time for exterior painting too. The lower chances of rain and consistent temps allow for larger projects to be completed faster and with less interference from the weather. 2. Fall/Winter: Focus on Interior Updates The cooler months are ideal for tackling interior projects. During fall and winter, healthcare and retirement homes often operate at a more predictable pace, making it a good time to schedule interior painting updates without significantly disrupting daily routines. Winter is a great time to refresh patient rooms, hallways, and bathrooms with more durable finishes that can withstand regular cleaning.
